MANILA, PHILIPPINES (Media OutReach, August 1, 2023) – A dynamic shift has taken place in the employment landscape of the Philippines, with 2 out of 5 Filipinos actively in search of fresh job opportunities at present, as per a recent nationwide survey. Additionally, 15% are making plans to initiate a job search within the next six months.

This unprecedented trend underscores a dynamic job market marked by heightened fluidity and individuals’ readiness to explore novel career avenues.

Changed Roles

The recent study, conducted by specialized recruiters Michael Page Philippines, engaged 1,306 participants from the Philippines.

It discloses that since the onset of the pandemic, 3 out of 5 employees have changed roles. This data signifies a significant shift in the workforce’s approach to their careers, giving rise to an “Invisible Revolution” characterized by a more transactional outlook toward work.

The Michael Page Philippines Talent Trends 2023 report, titled “The Invisible Revolution,” highlights the acceleration of this pace of change.

An astounding 9 out of 10 Filipinos who embarked on a new job venture last year remain open to fresh opportunities.

A flexible mindset concerning career advancement has become the prevailing norm, with a majority regarding job transitions as a regular component of their professional journey.

‘Exploring New Prospects’

In light of this trend, Olly Riches, Senior Managing Director of Michael Page Indonesia, Singapore, and Philippines, remarks: “An impressive 93% of all employees in the Philippines are receptive to exploring new prospects.

“Even content employees are actively considering new career avenues. Filipino professionals are now in pursuit of comprehensive packages, encompassing appealing remuneration, flexibility, career advancement, regular acknowledgment, and a work culture that resonates with their values across various domains, including sustainability and diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

The correlation between economic conditions and job-seeking behavior is becoming increasingly discernible.

In fact, 64% of the population is more likely to seek fresh employment during times of economic deterioration.

Nevertheless, this openness may not invariably translate into job applications.

Following a substantial wave of career transitions during and post the pandemic, individuals now prioritize finding job opportunities that best align with their personal aspirations and their vision of an ideal work-life equilibrium.

Global Talent Market

“The patterns observed in the Philippines echo the sentiments of the global talent market – every region has experienced a transformative shift across various age groups, markets, and industries,” Nicholas Kirk, CEO at PageGroup, said.

“These trends are not ephemeral or reactive responses to a period of turbulence. Rather, they are reshaping the workplace in a manner that will subtly yet fundamentally alter how businesses attract and retain their talent.”

These recent findings impel corporations in the Philippines to urgently reevaluate their talent strategies, as the job market undergoes a profound evolution.

To secure top-tier talent, employers must not only adapt to these changes but also foresee them, devising strategies that align with the aspirations of today’s career-oriented individuals.
