Marcos Appoints Sen. Angara as New DepEd Secretary

Marcos announced the appointment during the 17th Cabinet Meeting in Malacañang, following Angara’s official acceptance of the position.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Senator Juan Edgardo Angara as the new Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd), Malacañang confirmed on Tuesday.

Marcos announced the appointment during the 17th Cabinet Meeting in Malacañang, following Angara’s official acceptance of the position, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

“Senator Angara has an extensive legislative history, having championed significant education reforms since joining the Senate in 2013,” the PCO stated.

The PCO highlighted Angara’s notable legislative achievements, which include the Universal Access to Tertiary Education Act and the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K to 12).

Angara will succeed Vice President Sara Duterte, who resigned as Education Secretary on June 19, 2024.
