Tea Tree Oil Could Make or Break Your Curly Hair
Having a curly hair could be difficult and entails high maintenance. But it doesn’t have to be that way with the use of tea tree hair oils.
At PowerYourCurls, an online shop for curly hair care, there is a dry & itchy scalp care oil treatment that costs AED 65 (USD17.17 ~1 USD to AED 3.67) from its original price of AED 78 (USD 21.24). Its treatment will help nourish and increase scalp moisture. As a result, it will rid the scalp of itch, flaking, and irritation linked with dandruff.
You can learn about when to use tea tree oil and when to not use it.
Defeat Dandruff
A previous study found that 5% of oil from tea trees, an herb that grows in Australia. It is effective in treating dandruff.
PowerYourCurls’ shop also has a leave-in conditioner that contains olive oil and tea tree oil. It helps in detangling hair and enhancing combing, making kinky hair more manageable, shiny, and ready for styling.
Tea Tree Oil and Hair Growth
Dr. Hamdan Abdullah Hamed, Co-founder and Dermatologist at UAE-based PowerYourCurls.com, said tea tree oil contains an invigorating effect that may stimulate hair growth and encourage hair growth.
“There are studies focused on tea tree oils’ antifungal and antiseptic properties, so any hair growth resulting from its application could have been due to the absence of any fungal or scalp conditions,” Dr. Hamdan elaborated.
The Proper Way to Use Tea Tree Oil
French personal care firm Loreal said using hair oil may vary. For example, keeping wet hair moist can be done by applying a few drops of hair oil along the lengths and ends and ensuring that the oil is placed evenly before drying.
When applying hair oil, it would still depend on one’s hair type and needs. For some, they may need to apply a few drops every time they wash their hair whilst others can only reach for the oil if their hair is dry.
For tea tree oil, specifically, Dr. Hamdan advised diluting the carrier oil before using it if it is not as prediluted as Hermani’s tea tree oil.
Before using the oil, a patch test must be made by applying the diluted oil on a small area of the skin. This will determine if the user has allergies or adverse effects from the oil. If there are no reactions, the oil mixture can be applied to the scalp and gently massaged.
It can be left in for as long as a day and can be removed with any shampoo, preferably a sulfate-free one for curly-haired individuals.
Long Locks
Dr. Hamdan said tea tree oil, in its undiluted pure form, may not be the most suitable oil for curly hair since it is too strong and may burn or cause a prickly sensation in the scalp.
There are other alternatives for tea tree oil, suggests Dr. Hamdan.
“Argan oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and Shea butter are great alternatives (and carrier oils/products) to using tea tree oil,” said Dr. Hamdan.
