Family Killed in Speeding Van-Motorcycle Road Incident

KORONADAL CITY – Three members of a family died in a road incident involving a speeding van and a motorcycle along the highway of Tupi, South Cotabato on Saturday.

The police identified as Jomar Fermalino, aged 50, his 10-year-old daughter Shena, and his 77-year-old mother-in-law, Selvia Bastan.

The victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.

According to Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, the director of the Police Regional Office-12, a report from the Tupi Municipal Police Station revealed that the family was en route to Surallah town in South Cotabato when the tragedy struck.

The white van responsible for the collision hit their motorcycle from behind. And it fled from the scene, leaving the family in peril.

The impact of the collision was so severe that it caused the motorcycle and van to veer off the road.

The motorcycle landed on a four-foot concrete ditch along a section of the General Santos-Koronadal Highway in Barangay Palian, Tupi.

Fortunately, barangay officials were able to provide video footage captured by residents’ security cameras. The footage revealed the vehicle responsible for the accident.

The police are trying to locate the van and identify the driver for prosecution.
