In the early hours of Monday, a grenade explosion at the bus company’s terminal in Cotabato City injured a terminal dispatcher.

The police identified the victim as Mohammad Alim, aged 37.

Alim suffered shrapnel wounds in different parts of his body. Emergency responders promptly brought him to a hospital.

According to Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, the director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), witnesses informed investigators that two men riding a motorcycle were responsible for the bombing.

The suspects fled the scene just as a powerful blast shook the entrance of the Husky Bus terminal, which is located not far from a roadside police checkpoint.

The Husky Bus management has been firmly rejecting demands from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and the Dawlah Islamiya for monthly “protection money.”

In a previous incident on April 17, members of these groups had bombed a double-decker unit of the Husky Bus at the municipal terminal in Isulan town, Sultan Kudarat, injuring six passengers.

On May 31, bomb experts from the Cotabato City Police Office and the Army’s 6th Infantry Division foiled an attempt by the same groups to set off three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the gate of the Husky Bus terminal.

Major Gen. Alex Rillera, the commander of the 6th Infantry Division, said their intelligence units are assisting the Cotabato police in investigating the incident.
