Man in Custody for Hacking Death of Child and Injury of Others in Lamitan City

Zamboanga City, [14 July 2023] – A horrifying incident unfolded late Thursday in a secluded barangay in Lamitan City, as a man hacked a three-year-old child to death and inflicted injuries on two others. The perpetrator, identified as Bonie Tandi Erang, 27, has now been taken into custody by the police.
Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), confirmed that Erang was arrested approximately four hours after the heinous crime by pursuing policemen and barangay tanods.
The suspect is currently detained at the Lamitan City Police Station.
By noontime Friday, the Lamitan City police force, along with community leaders from Barangay Balagtasan, had filed murder charges and two counts of frustrated murder against Erang.
According to a report from Lt. Col. Arlan Delumpines, Lamitan City police chief, Erang forcefully entered the victims’ residence in Barangay Balagtasan around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and attacked them with a machete. Tragically, a young girl named Sanaya Sabdalun Anjal lost her life in the brutal attack.
The child’s mother, Linda Sabdalun Anjal, 23, and her grandmother, also named Linda and sharing the same surname, sustained severe injuries.
Erang attempted to flee the scene but was ultimately apprehended in another barangay of Lamitan City with the assistance of community leaders, barangay tanods, and local police personnel.
