In a statement released on Thursday, December 7, Commodore Marco Antonio Gines, the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) commander, announced the establishment of a sub-station in Santa Cruz village, Kabasalan.

Gines, along with Kabasalan Mayor Katrina Balladares, signed a Deed of Usufruct (DOU) on Wednesday, December 6, marking a significant milestone in the preparations for the sub-station’s construction. The DOU grants the PCG the right to use the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) building for a period of 30 years.

The sub-station will serve as the operational base for the PCG personnel assigned to the unit. It will house the office of the sub-station as well as provide accommodation facilities for the Coast Guard personnel. The establishment of this sub-station is a strategic move by the PCG to effectively carry out its mandated functions in maritime law enforcement, security, safety, marine environmental protection, and search and rescue operations.

Gines expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the municipal government of Kabasalan for their unwavering support of the PCG. The collaboration between the PCG and the local government is crucial in ensuring the success and effectiveness of the sub-station in fulfilling its responsibilities.

The signing of the DOU was attended by Lieutenant Commander Rommel Dua, the commander of the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga. The presence of Lieutenant Commander Dua during the signing further emphasizes the commitment of the PCG in establishing a strong and collaborative relationship with the local authorities.

The establishment of the sub-station in Kabasalan is a significant development in the PCG’s efforts to strengthen its presence and capabilities in the region. By having a dedicated base in Kabasalan, the PCG will be able to respond more swiftly and effectively to maritime incidents, ensuring the safety and security of the area.

The PCG’s mandate includes enforcing maritime laws, ensuring the safety of maritime activities, protecting the marine environment, and conducting search and rescue operations. The establishment of the sub-station in Kabasalan will enable the PCG to carry out these functions more efficiently, ultimately contributing to the overall safety and security of the region’s waters.

As the PCG continues to expand its operations and presence in various areas of the country, the establishment of sub-stations like the one in Kabasalan is crucial. These sub-stations serve as vital hubs for the PCG to coordinate and carry out its operations effectively.

The PCG’s commitment to maritime law enforcement and safety is commendable. With the establishment of the sub-station in Kabasalan, the PCG is taking a proactive approach in ensuring the protection of the region’s maritime resources and the safety of its people.

The collaboration between the PCG and the local government of Kabasalan is a testament to the importance of cooperation and partnership in achieving common goals. Together, they are working towards a safer and more secure maritime environment for the region.

Overall, the establishment of the sub-station in Kabasalan is a significant step towards enhancing the PCG’s capabilities in maritime law enforcement and safety.
