The fight against drug addiction in Basilan province has received a significant boost with the recent opening of a reformation facility in Lamitan City.

The local government, led by City Mayor Roderick Furigay and Basilan Governor Jim Salliman, has constructed the newly-built Balay Silangan Reformatory Center in Barangay Maganda.

This reformation facility is crucial in the rehabilitation of individuals who have turned away from the destructive path of illegal drugs.

The inauguration of the reformation facility was attended by Christian Frivaldo, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM), and representatives from the police, the military, and provincial officials. The event symbolized the collective effort to reintegrate former drug dependents back into their local communities.

Speaking about the importance of the facility, Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), expressed his gratitude towards the Lamitan City local government unit and the provincial government of Basilan for spearheading the project.

He emphasized the need to accelerate the process of reintegrating individuals who were once hooked on illegal drugs.

The Lamitan City government and its constituent barangay chairpersons were praised for their extensive support of the PRO-BAR and PDEA-BARMM’s anti-narcotics campaign in Basilan.

Lamitan City has been granted five Seal of Good Local Governance (SLG) awards in the past seven years by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for its outstanding peace and security initiatives, as well as its socio-economic programs that have greatly benefited the local communities.

The Balay Silangan Reformatory Center is a testament to the commitment of the Lamitan City local government and the provincial government of Basilan in addressing the drug problem. The facility will serve as a haven for former drug dependents, providing them with the necessary tools and support to rebuild their lives.

Rehabilitation is a crucial aspect of the overall strategy to combat the drug menace.

It not only focuses on deterring drug use but also aims to address the root causes of addiction and provide individuals with the opportunity to reintegrate into society as productive and law-abiding citizens.

The establishment of the reformation facility is a step in the right direction, but it is just the beginning. The success of the rehabilitation efforts will depend on the continuous support and collaboration of all stakeholders, including the government, law enforcement agencies, and the community as a whole.

By investing in rehabilitation and reformation programs, communities can break the cycle of drug addiction and create a safer and more prosperous environment for all.

The opening of the Balay Silangan Reformatory Center in Lamitan City is a beacon of hope and a testament to the resilience and determination of the people in their fight against drugs.
